A great western adventure of the old west. I would like more like this. A very good writer. He keeps the tale going well
JRW writes of the time when the Mountain Men worked and traveled the western states. The times created strong men an women who settle the
west. This is an excellent read for the times.....ER
What a wonderful tale, as we follow multiple characters as they explore and build the western reaches of the United States. Characters are well developed, and the reader feels as though they are in the middle of the action, as the complex interweaving of action, love, adversity, and betrayal keep the pages turning.
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It keeps you right in the middle of the telling and doesn't let you go. I hated to see it end. Thank you Mr. Wright!
You will lose sleep because you won’t be able to put it down. An enjoyable read with lots of historical references.
I love a good western and this was a wonderful story with a lot of twists band turns. I really grew to have an attachment to the characters and and the story kept me engaged throughout. A book filled with a lot of emotions, and well thought out history. And a new found anger at the way our government treated the Indians and the carefree way they gave and then broke the many treaties negotiated with them. All in all I thought it was a great story.
I loved this trilogy! Covering a span of over fifty years, the story brings to life the expansion of the country west. The story of Luke McKinney starts in St. Louis in 1839. It tells the tale of his life and his love for his wife Breanne. On the run from the law, they find happiness in a small cabin on a river. Breanne is captured by indians and Luke, while trying to find her, mistakenly thinks she was killed. He changes his name to Tom Hill and a friend helps to spread a tale that Luke was killed, ending the search for him for murdering an evil sherrif who deserved it. Breanne hears the rumor and, despondent, travels east to New York. The story then goes on to tell of their lives and unending love. With a cast of colorful characters and striking images of a virgin land populated by indians, the story tells the history of our country as seen through Luke's eyes. It is brought to life by cameo appearances by such historical figures as Jim Bridger, Gen. Custer, Sitting Bull, and Crazy Horse, among others. Will Luke ever be reunited with his lost love? Read this stirring tale of our country's growth. You will not be disappointed!
This trilogy spans many decades as it follows the young love of Luke & Breanne as they run off together with an older gentleman named Pierre. Breanne is kidnapped by Indians and that begins the star crossed lovers extremely long separation. The stories mostly focus on Luke with starring roles by Breanne, Sarah, and a young Indian named Chaska. It is truly a western frontier adventure with so many twists and ironic turns along the way.
Unlike most trilogies, the weakest book in the series is the first (in my opinion). I still found it enjoyable, and went on to read the 2nd and 3rd books which I enjoyed much more. You do have to read the first book to understand what is going on, as these are in no way stand alone novels. It is definitely something I would recommend for Western readers, and I think many romance readers would enjoy it as well (though it is a "tame" romance). It was something outside my usual books and I really enjoyed it. I will be keeping an eye out for more of his work.
